Federal Government Supports Arts in Abbotsford

Abbotsford –Member of Parliament Ed Fast today announced a $15,000 federal grant to support “Goya: The Disasters of War and Los Caprichos”, an exhibition being hosted by The Reach gallery.  Approved byCanadian Heritage Minister James Moore, the funding has helpedbring this exhibit to Abbotsford from the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.

“Abbotsford residents will be able to enjoy this moving exhibit as part of our government’s Museum Assistance Program,” said Fast. “Our Conservative government is pleased to support The Reach and the many educational programs it hosts every year.”

Fransisco Goya’s exhibit will showcase the devastations of war, as depicted by his impressions of the 19th century Peninsular War in Spain. Goya’s poignant works of art provide social commentary, personal expression and a view of the consequences of war on individuals.

Abbotsford has a long history of supporting the arts and of serving as a cultural hubwithin the Fraser Valley. Since opening in 2008, The Reach has served thousands ofresidents and visitors alike.

“Abbotsford has earned the reputation as a cultural leader within the Fraser Valley,” added Fast. “Abbotsford residents share a commitment to nurturingthe arts, culture and heritage. I am proud to welcome this exhibition to our community.”

The exhibition will be on display at the Abbotsford Cultural Centre Reach Gallery from January 26, 2012 until March 25, 2012.
